Royal Baby Name, George Alexander Louis, Is 'Tribute' to Queen Elizabeth II's Father, Baby Name Expert Reveals Meaning Behind Prince's Name
Prince William and Duchess Kate welcomed the latest royal heir into the world on Monday, and on Wednesday, they released the young prince's name: George Alexander Louis.
According to the palace statement, the baby will be known as His Royal Highness Prince George of Cambridge.
George, long considered the most likely name for the new heir to the throne, was the name of Queen Elizabeth II's father, King George VI, who died in 1952.
"George VI was a beloved monarch, rallying the country during World War II. Most Brits think of it as a very Kingly and Royal name and are happy with the choice," BabyNames.com founder Jennifer Moss told EnStars.
"Ironically, the name has a more "common" meaning: earth worker (farmer)," she added.

Alexander, one of the new prince's middle names, is not a royal name, but it's believed that it might be used as a nickname, with his parents calling him Alex at home.
Louis, the infant prince's other middle name, is also one of the middle names of his father, Prince William. It is a reference to Prince Charles’ favorite great-uncle, Lord Louis Mountbatten, a British naval officer who was assassinated by the Irish Republican Army in 1979.
"In the US, reaction is mixed: most associated with the recent past-president but also from our founding father, George Washington," Moss said.
But overall, Moss believes the royal heir's name is perfect. "I believe George Alexander Louis is a great choice for a future king," she said.
