Anthony Weiner Scandal, VIDEO: Wife Defends Mayoral Candidate, 'I Love Him, I Forgive Him'
As Anthony Weiner's sex scandal continues to unravel, his wife is standing by his side.
During a Tuesday news conference, Huma Abedin, a longtime aide to Hillary Clinton, defended her husband and declared her love for him.
"Our marriage, like many others, has had its ups and its downs," she said. "It took a lot of work and a whole lot of therapy to get to a place where I could forgive him. It was not an easy choice in any way, but I made the decision that it was worth staying in this marriage."
"Anthony has made some horrible mistakes, both before he was resigned from Congress and after," she continued. "We discussed all of this before Anthony decided that he would run for mayor. So really what I want to say is I love him, I have forgiven him, I believe in him and as we have said from the beginning we are moving forward."
It's deja vu for Weiner, who resigned from Congress in June 2011 after he confessed to an initial sexting scandal.
The new scandal surfaced on Tuesday when the gossip website The Dirty, divulged explicit messages and photos between Weiner and a 22-year-old female. Weiner used the online name Carlos Danger during the 2012 exchange. The website also reported that Weiner promised the female a condo and a job.
The six-term former Congressman admitted to his wrongdoings when he also spoke at the press conference on Tuesday.
"I said that other texts and photos were likely to come out, and today they have," Weiner, 48, said. "While some things that have been posted today are true and some are not, there is no question that what I did was wrong. This behavior is behind me."
The Democrat, who has been dominating several Mayoral polls, intends to stay in the race. Other candidates include New York City Council speaker Christine Quinn and NYC Comptroller John Liu.
