The photo of the 23-year-old allegedly brandishing a weapon was part of 100 pages of court records released Thursday. Police said video cameras in Hernandez's North Attleborough, Mass., home showed the ex-New England Patriots player carrying the firearm in his basement and living room. The footage was taken not long after the June 17 murder of his one-time associate Odin Lloyd, according to an affidavit. The surveillance was cut off within minutes of capturing Hernandez's image.
Investigators said Lloyd was shot and killed with a .45 caliber gun. The murder weapon has not been found and prosecutors claimed the former NFL tight end disposed of the weapon and destroyed his home's video surveillance system after he and his two co-defendants, Ernest Wallace and Carlos Ortiz, drove the victim to the North Attleborough industrial park. Ortiz informed police that Wallace said Hernandez fired the shots that killed Lloyd, according to court records.
In June, Hernandez pleaded not guilty to murder in the death of Lloyd, 27, whose body was found June 17 in the industrial park near Hernandez's home. He is being held without bail.
Police in Boston also connected Hernandez to a double murder, which took place on a South End street on July 16, 2012. Sources told The Boston Globe that investigators believe the 23-year-old murdered his former associate because Lloyd had information about the killings in South End and could potentially talk to others about it.
Prosecutors are trying to convince a Suffolk County grand jury that Hernandez should be charged in the shooting death of the two men.
