Hudson River Boating Accident Update [VIDEO]: Driver Charged With Manslaughter, Believed to Have Operated the Boat 'While Intoxicated'
The Hudson River boating accident that happened Friday has led to charges of manslaughter against the man believed to have been operating the speedboat with a wedding party aboard when it crashed into a construction barge that was parked, according to July 27 reports.
The accident happened near the Tappan Zee Bridge at around 10:30 pm on July 26, The Inquisitr reported. Bride-to-be Lindsey Stewart, 30, appears to have been killed in the tragic accident. A female's body was found yesterday afternoon about 600 feet from the riverbank, but has not yet been identified. Groom Brian Bond, 36, survived, along with three others, but experienced a fractured eye socket. Best man Mark Lennon still hasn't been located. Only two people aboard the boat are believed to have been wearing life jackets.
The boat operator, identified by many media outlets as Jojo K. John, was charged while still in his hospital bed with vehicular manslaughter and vehicular assault, the New York Daily News reported on July 27. Rockland County Undersheriff Robert Van Cura, said that "We have probable cause to believe he operated the boat while intoxicated." Additional charges are possible.
Lindsey Stewart's stepfather said "Lindsey did all the planning herself for the wedding. She's a real smart lady. They've known each other since [they were ] 10-years-old - they use to go to church together...They fell in love three and a half years ago - they were planning a future together," the New York Post reported on July 27.
Stewart and Bond were due to be married on August 10.
Search teams are continuing to look for Lennon.
