Police will search a lake in Aaron Hernandez's hometown for the third straight day, after they received a tip that the murder weapon used in Odin Lloyd's death was tossed into the water, according to The Boston Globe.

Investigators came up empty handed on both Monday and Tuesday in their search for the .45-caliber Glock that was used in the shooting death of Lloyd. On Tuesday, two Connecticut State Police divers scoured the waters of Pine Lake with metal detectors roughly 8 feet from its banks.

Police Scuba divers also searched the lake, guided by a rope, which secured them to the bank. They dove underwater to a buoy about 50 feet from shore, before returning to land. But at 4pm the divers left the water, without any noticeable evidence.

Law enforcement officials at the scene on Monday said the lake was being searched as a result of a tip that evidence related to Lloyd's death could be found in Bristol's Pine Lake.

Hernandez still has relatives living in his native Bristol, Conn., including his mother and an uncle whose home is on Lake Avenue, not far from the lake that was being searched.

In June, authorities searched the uncle's house and seized an SUV, which Boston police suspect may have been used in a 2012 double homicide.

The murder weapon is the most coveted piece of evidence in the case and prosecutors believe they will have a definite edge on Hernandez's defense if the weapon is found. Though the proof collected in the case against Hernandez is strong, and the 23-year-old has been denied bail twice because of it, it's mostly circumstantial.
