J.K. Rowling's New Book: 'The Casual Vacancy' to be Blackly Comic
J.K. Rowling's publisher Little, Brown & Co. announced today that her first novel for adults is entitled "The Casual Vacancy" and will be available worldwide on September 27.
The novel is Rowling's first book after the Harry Potter saga that sold 450 million copies around the world and inspired a series of movies that have made box office history.
The publisher said "The Casual Vacancy" is a "blackly comic" book with constant surprises.
Plot
The book is set in the little town of Pagford which is seemingly, an English idyll. The story begins when a member of the parish council dies unexpectedly.
"The city is not what it first seems and behind its pretty facade is a town at war," the publisher said.
"Rich at war with poor, teenagers at war with their parents, wives at war with their husbands, teachers at war with their pupils."
But the biggest war the town has yet seen explodes when they try to fill the man's empty seat at the council.
The book will be available as an e-book and a traditional hardback volume.
