Cardi B on ‘Assisted Living’ Exit: Will Paramount Players Pursue Legal Action?
Fans are devastated to discover that Cardi B won't be joining the upcoming comedy "Assisted Living," as she reportedly dropped out from the movie a few days before production hit.
According to Uproxx, the 29-year-old rapper seems like she's ready to take a break after "overextending" herself.
The hip-hop star was bound to star in the upcoming Paramount comedy film, but she had to cancel her appearance, leading production to shut down their early stages, including filming in New York.
The movie would have been the mom of two's first lead role apart from making her debut as a supporting character in "Fast 9" and "Hustlers."
Per Deadline, the set has been taken down, and the production crew was told that the movie was "temporarily shut down."
Regarding Cardi B's fate, the outlet noted that the carrying studio, Paramount Players, won't be pursuing legal action against the rapper despite dropping out at the last minute.
However, the production is hoping to try again later this year.
Cardi B Has a Lot of Commitments Over the Past Few Months
The outlet noted that the probable reason why Cardi B withdrew her role in the movie is that she had a lot of things in her hands and needed a break.
Over the past few months, the "WAP" rapper just came off her defamation lawsuit against Tasha K, who reportedly spread lies about her on the internet. She was awarded a staggering $1.25 million in damages.
In addition, she's consulting with Playboy magazine for the newly-launched Centerfold platform, filming her "Cardi Tries" Facebook Watch show, and working on a highly-anticipated sophomore album.
Furthermore, Cardi B is also taking care of her six-month-old baby with Offset.
At the time of this writing, the rapper has not publicly revealed the actual reason why she tapped out of "Assisted Living."
On the other hand, Paramount Players has not announced whether they'll wait for Cardi B or will replace her with a new actress to star in the film.
Cardi B's Supposed Role in 'Assisted Living'
According to Variety, the movie was described as a "raucous comedy" with "tremendous heart." The story was compared to previous comedy films like "Mrs. Doubtfire" and "Sister Act."
Cardi B was supposed to wear old lady prosthetics for the role of Amber, a low-level criminal hiding from authorities by staying at her grandmother's retirement home after being wrongly accused.
The script was written by Kay Oyegun, popularly known for writing "This Is Us."
Temple Hill and Steven Love produce the movie.
