Will Smith's Personal Life Can Lose Him An Oscar, Academy Award Source Says
According to Academy Awards insiders, Will Smith's personal life will cost him an Oscar.
"King Richard," the latest film featuring the actor-producer, tells the story of Richard Williams, the father and coach of famed tennis champions Serena and Venus Williams.
It's a sweet film with Oscar potential written all over it. Smith's amazing depiction of the unusual tennis dad who helped his children chart their route to the top has made him the favorite and bet to win the Best Actor Academy Award, something he has always desired.
Will Smith's unusual marital and sex life, as well as what The Sun described as a "trashy Kardashian-like candid interview," might be the end of another Academy Award dream for the 53-year-old actor.
This would be Smith's first award for the Oscars, having previously only been nominated for "Ali" and "The Pursuit of Happiness."
However, there is a criterion for selecting the best winner in each category.
The members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, according to The Sun, are an old and conservative lobby that chooses the Oscar winners.
Per their source, Will Smith and his wife Jada Pinkett Smith flaunting their "open marriage" in public is what is preventing the Hollywood star from receiving a golden statue next Sunday.
Pinkett Smith's "Red Table Talk" show has also made some shifts to confessional TV and adult-rated conversations about having sex in public, multiple orgasms, and masturbation, putting them in "the world of tacky reality TV," which apparently calls their creative integrity into doubt.
According to one Academy voter, despite the couple's billion-dollar empires in television, film, and the internet, they have been lumped in with the Kardashians.
"Would the Academy ever award an Oscar to a Kardashian?" they wondered.
"That rationale is why some believe Will isn't in the dominant position in the awards race that he appears to be."
According to the Sun, this would also explain why Smith was so quick to respond to Rebel Wilson's quip about Pinkett Smith seeing other guys at the BAFTAs.
Jada Pinkett Smith admitted in 2020 that he became sexually involved with August Alsina when she and Will Smith were "separated."
Recently, the "Men In Black" actor acknowledged to giving his wife of almost a quarter-century her "freedom" and abusing hallucinogenic drugs amid their marriage's breakdown.
Smith also stated regarding their open marriage, "We have given each other trust and freedom, knowing that everyone needs to find their path." And marriage cannot be a jail for us."
