'Grey's Anatomy' Embarrassment: Top Exec Put on Leave Amid Fabrication Claims
Another row has erupted over the long-running medical program "Grey's Anatomy."
Elisabeth Finch, one of the show's most illustrious writers, has apparently been placed on administrative leave as a result of an investigation by Disney's legal and human resources departments over her claims concerning abortion and cancer diagnosis.
The Hollywood Reporter said in a news piece that an internal inquiry is underway into the allegations Finch made about her journey, with some of it encompassing the long-running series, to ensure that what she said was real.
One of the most surprising allegations leveled against the disgraced writer is that she faked her cancer diagnosis and had an abortion while undergoing treatment. Concerns were raised after other staff members spoke with Finch's now-ex-wife, Jennifer Beyer, per the site.
According to sources, Finch told her coworkers that she had a family emergency, which forced her to seek a leave of absence from work and run out of the writer's room.
When Beyer's coworkers contacted to check on Finch, the writer's story began to unravel. They claimed that what Finch was saying matched Beyer's history.
Shonda Rhimes, her execs, and Disney were all alerted when Finch's then-wife raised red flags. According to sources close to the situation, Finch and Beyer are currently going through an "acrimonious divorce."
Finch's coworkers and industry insiders are said to be stunned by the discovery, especially as she has repeatedly chronicled her heroic journey in writings for Shondaland.com, Elle magazine, and The Hollywood Reporter, claiming that these were her own experiences.
Those who were taken aback by the rumors aren't sure what to trust in anymore, citing a lack of a "smoking gun" as evidence of their skepticism.
"You believe this poor woman was going through this horrific event, and you want to support her," one of the producer-writer's acquaintances told THR.
Elisabeth Finch has worked in the sector for many years. She has written for "True Blood" and "The Vampire Diaries," in addition to "Grey's Anatomy."
Her high-profile shows have introduced her to some of the biggest figures in the television industry. Aside from working for numerous years with Rhimes and "Grey's Anatomy" star Ellen Pompeo, Finch also produced plotlines for celebrities such as Nina Dobrev, Ian Somerhalder, Anna Paquin, and many more.
Finch's lawyer Andrew Brettler released a statement to THR saying, "Ms. Finch will not disclose her private health matters. Likewise, she will not speak about her pending divorce from her estranged wife, Jennifer Beyer, or comment on any statements that Ms. Beyer may have made to third parties about Ms. Finch."
