Tony Hawk Update: Skateboarding Legend Made It to the Oscars Weeks After Accident
Nothing will stop Tony Hawk from attending this year's Oscars despite suffering from a major injury weeks back as he arrived on the red carpet and will later present an award during the ceremony.
According to People Magazine, the skateboarding legend graced the red carpet while using a cane to assist his walking.
Accompanying him for tonight's show is his wife, Cathy Goodman, who's also wearing an outfit by Gucci.
The couple was all smiles when photographers took their photos, and it seems like Hawk is doing much better today, weeks after he revealed that he had a major injury.
What Happened to Tony Hawk?
Earlier this month, the skateboarder took to his official Instagram account to share his skating accident journey.
He wrote in the caption that he broke his elbows 20 years ago and was able to make a full recovery; however, his recent accident will be "much harder" because of its severity and his age.
Despite being injured, Hawk is determined to skate again in the future as he wrote, "I'm up for the challenge."
The accident took place on the evening of HBO releasing the teaser of "Until The Wheels Fall Off," a documentary about his life and career created by Sam Jones.
Hawk said it's ironic that it happened on the same night because the documentary has a strong focus on the philosophy of how he skateboards at his age.
"The answer is complicated, but ultimately it's because I have found my sense of purpose and shaped my identity through skating," he added.
The skateboarding legend also added that he always says he won't stop skating until he's "physically unable."
After breaking his femur, Hawk said it would be the biggest test of "that creed."
He promised fans that he would make a full recovery and come back to skating, writing, "'ll be back... maybe not at full capacity but I resigned to that notion years ago."
Online Fans Confused on Why Tony Hawk Will Present at the Oscar's
After the Academy Awards announced the additional names of presenters for this year's ceremony, many fans took to Twitter to express their confusion about why Tony Hawk and other random celebrities will present the awards for the nominees.
Aside from Hawk, other presenters include snowboarder Shaun White, producer DJ Khaled, surfer Kelly Slater, and more. Yahoo! News noted that the celebrities chosen aren't associated with filmmaking.
The skateboarder later defended himself, saying he was in every "Jackass" movie, "xXx," "Police Academy 4," and "Sharknado 5," before telling critics that their taste in film needs "readjusting."
