Will Smith Unbothered: Actor Seen Partying After Shocking Chris Rock Slap
Will Smith did not let the Oscars blunder keep him from partying and dancing at the Vanity Fair after-party.
On Sunday, Smith celebrated his best actor win for his role in "King Richard" during the Oscars party. Photos from the event show the comedian dancing in the middle of people filming him and standing beside him for selfies.
The 53-year-old then jived in the tune of his songs like "Summertime" and "Getting Jiggy Wit It."
Trevor Noah was also seen giving him a long hug, whispering something in Smith's ear as the actor laughed.
In other pictures, Smith clanked his Oscar trophy with other winners before holding it high while climbing into an SUV to leave the event.
He attended the party after Chris Rock Slap trended worldwide when he smacked the stand-up comedian while on the Oscars stage. Smith ultimately slapped Rock after the comedian said he could not wait to see Jada Pinkett Smith in "G.I. Jane 2."
The joke was below the belt as the actress has struggled with alopecia which led to her hair loss. Smith warned Rock not to mention his wife's name in any way.
The Academy has since released a statement saying that it does not approve of any form of violence. Still, it did not snatch the actor's Oscar.
"The Academy does not condone violence of any form. Tonight we are delighted to celebrate our 94th Academy Awards winners, who deserve this moment of recognition from their peers and movie lovers around the world," the statement said.
Will Smith Apologized During Best Actor Speech
After the dispute, Smith tearfully accepted the award for Best Actor for his role as Richard Williams in the film "King Richard."
Aside from thanking the Academy and his fans, he also addressed the Chris Rock slap and apologized to everyone.
"I know to do what we do, you gotta be able to take abuse and have people talk people about you. In this business, you gotta have people disrespecting you. And you gotta smile and pretend that's ok," he said.
He also mentioned that Denzel Washington left him some wisdom before his win. His fellow nominee reportedly told him that he should be careful at his highest moment since that is "when the devil comes for you."
Smith expressed his hopes that Academy would welcome him back after what happened.
