Cleveland Browns player Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah and his family received bad news about his brother, Joshua.

The Hampton Police Department released a shocking press release confirming that a homicide occurred inside a residence in Hampton, Virginia. It revealed that the police found evidence of fire inside the home.

Public Safety Communications first received a call about a deceased person at around 9:57 a.m. Upon the arrival of the responders and members of the Hampton Division of Fire and Rescue, they found an adult male victim who had died inside the residence.

After a few hours, they updated the press release and disclosed the identity of the victim -- Owusu-Koramoah's 23-year-old brother, Joshua.

The department is continuing the investigation into the incident, and the manner and cause of death are yet to be determined.

However, it has since been disclosed that it is being examined as a homicide.

The Cleveland Browns' player is yet to comment on the recent loss. But he noted in January that Joshua and his other brother, Jerry Brooks, pushed him to continue his athletic career.

"If it wasn't for those two I would probably be playing basketball. Definitely very influential in terms of the football aspects. Just in terms of the physicality, in terms of the toughness, in terms of persistence even when sometimes I didn't feel that I should be playing football," Owusu-Koramoah told NBC Sports.

What Happened to Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah's Brother?

During an April 6 interview with The Virginian-Pilot, junior varsity football head coach at Kecoughtan High School, Drew Barker, said that he was scheduled to meet the victim at 9:00 a.m. in Hampton. He was also a former football teammate of Joshua.

After waiting for 25 minutes, he tried calling Joshua to check on him.

"It was automatically heartbreaking when he wasn't answering phone calls because he was the most punctual, respectful, humble and reliable person I know," he said.

As the victim failed to answer his calls, he reportedly drove to Joshua's townhouse and arrived at 9:55 a.m. He also told the news outlet that he was one of the first people who arrived on the scene after the emergency responders.

Barker and Owusu-Koramoah's family hoped that the man was not him. But it was demoralizing as they tried to figure out how it happened when they confirmed that Joshua was the man found inside the residence.
