During a podcast interview, Cam Newton made a series of derogatory and provocative statements that have since gone viral. The statements are targeted at women, which naturally roused the ire of the listeners.

A number of people has come forward to label the NFL quarterback's remarks about women and the proper role they should play in society and in the home misogynistic and insulting.

In an appearance on the Million Dollaz Worth of Game podcast on Monday, the 32-year-old free agent was unapologetic in his assessment of women who "can't cook" and "don't know when to be quiet," as he put it.

"I had a perfect, a perfect example of what a man was in my life by my father," Newton said during Monday's podcast before focusing in on women. "My parents have been together for 36, 37 years now and it's a beautiful thing."

He should have stopped there, but he did not. Instead, he further detailed what it was like growing up, and while he was merely talking about his own experience about being raised by his grandmother apart from parents, his words bordered on derogatory as a result.

"I grew up in a three-parent household," he continued. "My mom, my father, and my grandmother. And I knew what a woman was, not a bad b----."

He knew his words would displease many. He said so himself.

"A bad b---- is a person who is just, you know, 'Girl, I'm a bad b----, I'm doing this, I'm doing that. I look the part but I don't act that part,'" he explained. "And there's a lot of women who are bad b------, and I say b------ in a way not to degrade a woman, but just to go off the aesthetic of what they deem is a boss chick."

Just as soon as Newton said the controversial statements, fans and non-fans alike took to social media to call the NFL star out on his misogynistic attitudes toward women.

A senior writer for The Athletic, Nicole Auerbach, stated, "Based on this, I'd argue Cam's the one who doesn't know when to be quiet," following his interview.

"If you can't take care of yourself, just say that," another woman commented in the comments section of the video posted by Hollywood Unlocked.

Some shocked fans asked whether or not this was the same man who mocked a female reporter for asking a legitimate question.

Newton has a history of making sexist remarks about women, and this isn't the first time he's gotten into trouble for it.

After being criticized for claiming it was "funny" to hear a female interviewer ask a question about the sport, the Carolina Panthers quarterback returned to the field in 2018.
