'Lizzie McGuire’ Reboot: Hilary Duff Finally Addresses Unaired Disney+ Project
Hilary Duff spilled all the tea in her recent interview and revealed what exactly went down behind the cancellation of the highly-anticipated "Lizzie McGuire" reboot.
According to InStyle, the actress appeared in Women's Health Magazine's May issue and posed completely nude.
In the interview, the former child star candidly opened up about what happened to the revival's failure to air.
The actress said she turned down many offers to revive the program, which was loved by fans in the early 2000s, but she ultimately agreed to redo it after Disney+'s offer.
After announcing the reboot, many fans rejoiced as they thought they would be seeing the iconic character reunite with her former castmates again, but the show never happened.
The supposed reboot never came to fruition because Duff wanted the media giant to allow a more mature portrayal of her character.
"She had to be 30 years old doing 30-year-old things, she didn't need to be doing bong rips and having one-night stands all the time, but it had to be authentic. I think they got spooked," she said.
The recent revelation comes two years after Duff shocked fans when she took to Instagram to announce that the iconic show would not happen anymore.
In a statement, the actress noted that she's honored to have played the character in her life as it made a long-lasting impact not just on herself but on fans globally.
Duff heartbreakingly announced that the beloved role would not appear on anyone's TV screens anytime soon despite everyone's efforts.
"I want any reboot of Lizzie to be honest and authentic to who Lizzie would be today. It's what the character she deserves," she added.
The actress concluded her post by telling fans to take a moment to mourn the "amazing woman she would have been" and the future adventures she's taking with her.
Duff said she's sad about what happened but assured fans that she tried her best, but "the stars just didn't align."
In a previous interview with Vice, Robert Carradine, who played the role of Lizzie McGuire's dad on the show, spoke about how disappointed and surprised he is about the sudden turn of events.
The actor revealed they underwent table reads for the first two episodes. To his surprise, Disney Executives appeared to enjoy the upcoming material as they were "laughting their asses off."
