Here's How Johnny Depp Will Win Defamation Case, According To Lawyers
Johnny Depp received positive responses from lawyers not involved in the defamation trial as the actor has been purportedly doing well as a witness.
Before the defamation trial resumes following this week's break, more people and experts shared their thoughts about the events so far. While some support Amber Heard, most users believe Depp and support his testimonies against the actress.
This time, three attorneys commented on the development and said that Depp has been doing well in the trial - so far.
In an interview with The Independent, lawyers Alex Wade, Mitra Ahouraian, and Jesse Weber all gave the standard Heard must meet to countersuit against Depp. But as of this time, the attorneys believe that the actor has a higher chance of winning the case.
According to Wade, a media litigation lawyer, Depp and his team should prove that Heard knew what she was writing was not true or acted while disregarding the truth. By showing that she behaved with actual malice, the court's ruling might highly likely be in favor of him.
Ahouraian, an entertainment lawyer, shared the same sentiment in the defamation claim.
"She would have to establish that he knows those things that he put in the complaint are not true, or he doesn't care if they're true or not, he just wants to make her look bad. She has to show that malicious intent, which is difficult to do, but she has a greater chance of winning if she can show that the statements she made were true," he said.
However, he noted that proving the actual malice is generally hard to prove.
Johnny Depp Still Doing Well
Despite that, Ahouraian noted that Depp has been doing well as a witness. Comparing him to Heard, Depp reputedly showed his true self and acquitted himself better this time following the UK libel trial.
Weber, an attorney and host on the Law & Crime network, agreed to Ahouraian and explained how he found the "Pirates of the Caribbean" actor coming off very strong.
"He was contemplating his answers and he didn't speak like one of his characters. He spoke like a real human being. For me, and I think for a lot of people, it came off as very relatable," he said.
At the moment, Heard is more in the hot seat than Depp, and she has been losing supporters and receiving hostile comments from the public instead.
