Johnny Depp Lost Chances To Be Hired by Studios Because of THIS, Former Agent Says
Johnny Depp's former agent took the stand during the defamation trial and revealed why several studios became reluctant to hire him in movies.
Depp and Amber Heard have been the center of a legal showdown in the past weeks after the actor filed a defamation lawsuit against his ex-wife. The "Pirates of the Caribbean" star is suing the actress over her 2018 The Washington Post op-ed in which she claimed she was a victim of domestic abuse.
Although Heard did not name him, Depp said that the article tarnished his career and led him to lose his major franchises.
However, his former agent offered a different reason why he found it hard to become part of movies in the past years.
On Thursday, the deposition of Depp's agent for 30 years Tracey Jacobs - whom he fired in 2016 - was presented to the court.
She testified that the actor's career hit rock bottom due to his unprofessional behavior. Jacobs alleged that he showed his negative attributes long before the op-ed was published.
Jacobs described him as the biggest star in the world. But years later, it purportedly became complicated to represent him because of his attitude.
"Showing up late to set consistently on virtually every movie. I would get yelled at. I never said to him, 'You're a difficult client.' I never used those words. But I was very honest with him and said, 'You've got to stop doing this. This is hurting you.' And it did," she said.
Johnny Depp WAS Loved by Crews
In the same deposition, Jacobs recalled how movie crews used to love him. However, they got tired of waiting for him to show up on set.
Because of that, Depp made the studios feel reluctant to hire him until he fired her.
Aside from the "Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise, he also lost his Gellert Grindelwald role in "Fantastic Beasts" following this court battle against The Sun.
He divulged in a heartfelt letter that Warner Bros. asked him to withdraw from the franchise.
"I wish to let you know that I have been asked to resign by Warner Bros from my role as Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts, and I have respected and agreed to that request," he said. "The surreal judgment of the court in the UK will not change my fight to tell the truth and I confirm that I plan to appeal."
Following his exit, Mads Mikkelsen ultimately replaced him.
