Kings Island to Add World Record-Breaking Roller Coaster to Theme Park
Amusement park Kings Island is getting a "world record-breaking" roller coaster in 2014, The Enquirer reported on Aug. 2.
Records obtained by the publication show that the coaster is currently being called the 2014 project and will be located in the park's north end where former roller coaster Son of Beast was before it as demolished last fall.
The $10 million coaster Son of Beast was open from 2000-2009 before it was shut down after a string of injuries.
The amusement park's manager of facilities, engineering and construction Jeff Gramke, reportedly drew the zoning plans for the new coaster filed with the city of Mason, Ohio, The Enquirer reported.
Gramke is the same designer who created The Beast, which reportedly has held the record as the world's longest wooden roller coaster and remains on the list of the world's top wooden coasters since 1979 when it was built.
Kings Island officials have not announced what kind of record the new coaster will be breaking, but reportedly will be releasing details at 10 p.m. on Thursday.
Though the name of the new coaster has not yet been released, King Island's parent company Cedar Fair Entertainment Co. filed to trademark "Banshee" on a ride in April, according to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
With no more details park goers can only wonder what type of coaster the 2014 project will be.
The most recent roller coaster to open at the amusement park was Diamondback in 2009. That $22 million coaster broke height and speed records at Kings Island, zooming at 80mph from 230 feet.
