Robert J. Valentine, 49, died in a moped crash in Hernandez's hometown of Bristol, Conn. around 1 a.m. on Aug. 3, according to Boston.com. Valentine's vehicle was the only one involved in the accident.
Hernandez's uncle was driving north on Central Street when his moped struck the curb and the impact propelled him into a private driveway, according to a statement from the local police.
Valentine suffered a severe head injury and was treated by paramedics, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. The 49-year-old was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
He was the brother of Hernandez's mother, Terri Hernandez, according to his brother, Patrick Valentine.
"We saw Aaron on occasion," Patrick said. "We didn't see him all too often though, mainly just on holidays."
Robert is the second family member Aaron has lost since he was arrested and charged with the murder of Odin Lloyd. The ex-NFL tight end's in-law Thaddeus Singleton III died in early July. Like Robert, Singleton was also killed in a single-vehicle accident. Singleton was married to Hernandez's cousin Tanya Valderrama.
Police said the car Singleton was driving jumped the curb, hit an electrical pole and smashed into the Farmington Country Club in Farmington, West VA.
Police were reportedly interested in speaking to Singleton about Aaron's possible role in a double homicide, according to The Hartford Courant. The victims, Safiro Furtado and Daniel Abreu, were immigrants from Cape Verde. They were killed on July 16, 2012 when someone driving an SUV with Rohde Island license plates opened fire on their car in Boston.

Police in Boston connected Aaron to the double murder, which took place on a South End street, after he was charged with the murder of Odin Lloyd. Sources told The Boston Globe that investigators believe the 23-year-old killed Lloyd because he had information about the killings in South End and could potentially talk.
