Knicks superstar Carmelo Anthony said his shot at winning an NBA championship is diminishing and the time to bring home the Larry O'Brien trophy is now.

"My window is closing and I'm trying to bring a championship to New York ASAP," Anthony told ESPN at his annual basketball camp on Aug. 3.

Anthony, who turned 29 in May, will be entering his 11th NBA season when league play begins later this year. NBA players typically peak between the ages of 28 and 30 before the residual effects of wear-and-tear begin to diminish their athleticism, according to reports. However, some players are still able to perform at a high level way into their 30s.

The 2013-2014 season in particular will be an important one for both Anthony and the Knicks, since the six-time all star can opt out of his contract at the end of next season and become a free agent. The Knicks will do everything in their power to re-sign their franchise player, and a successful season-either a championship or deep playoff run-will be favorable in their efforts.

Anthony said on Aug. 3 that he is focused on the upcoming season, but declined to discuss his opt-out in detail.

"I haven't even, to be honest with you, thought about anything past today, " he said. "My mind is not even thinking about ... next offseason right now. I'm just trying to do what I do this offseason to get right -- work out, train and prepare myself for this season. When that time comes, I'll deal with that. That's not something I'm thinking about right now."
