Taco Bell Waffle Taco Breakfast 2014: Top Seller Taco in California to Debut Nationally
Fast food restaurant Taco Bell is expanding its small test of waffle taco.
The food chain will nationally provide their breakfast menu sometime next year, Yahoo reported August 6.
The waffle taco, which includes scrambled eggs, sausage and a side of syrup, was reportedly the top seller during breakfast hours at the five restaurants in Southern California that were chosen to test the food. The company now is aiming to see if the waffle taco, along with a full breakfast menu, will sell in other parts of the nation. Starting Thursday, about 100 restaurants in Fresno, Calif., Omaha, Neb. and Chattanooga, Tenn., will serve the breakfast foods. Other options besides the waffle taco will be yogurt parfait and oatmeal.
The idea to expand the testing is partially to get a better sense of how the restaurants will handle the pressure from the anticipated waffle taco, President of Taco Bell, Brian Niccol said, Yahoo reported.
"You only get one shot when you go with big items," Niccol said about the waffle taco, which as 460 calories and 40 grams of fat.
The fast food restaurant offers breakfast at about 850 locations in 10 states, Yahoo reported. The restaurants have been trying new items like the waffle taco before they provide it to their 6,000 U.S. restaurants.
Since the waffle tacos were introduced in March, they went through some changes to make them better. Nichols said frying time and temperature were changed, as well as the shape of the taco to make it easier to hold the ingredients inside.
