Beyoncé Mistaken for THIS Celebrity During US Open, Fans Divided!
Serena Williams recently joined the US Open for the last time as she's set to retire before celebrating her 40th birthday. More recently, during the big tennis event, many fans thought Beyoncé was in the crowd to cheer for her good pal, but it turned out to be a different celebrity; who could this be?
According to Uproxx, numerous stars attended the sporting event to watch a historic match before the tennis superstar leaves the lawn and hang her racket.
Some of the celebrities who were in attendance were Queen Latifah, Mike Tyson, Anthony Anderson, and many more.
One particular audience member stood out and became a trending topic on Twitter as many people thought it was Beyoncé.
The celebrity turned out to be Laverne Cox who hilariously addressed the matter on her official Instagram account.
The actress shared hilarious memes and screenshots of tweets pertaining to her.
"Not me getting mistaken for @Beyonce at the #USOpen tonight then trending on Twitter as the internet cackles over the mistaken identity. These tweets are funny as hell," she wrote in the caption.
The reason why Cox was mistaken for the "Renaissance" singer was because of her facemask that covered the other half of her face.
The actress donned a curly hairstyle, a pair of gloves, and a full-on black outfit that heavily resembled Beyoncé's style.
Internet Fans Divided
At first, many fans were convinced that the global superstar indeed attended the match as they shared numerous tweets about the matter.
One fan even shared how her dad was "pissed" after failing to buy tickets to the US Open only to find out that the singer was in the event as well.
Not all were fooled by Cox as many people recognized her on social media the moment they saw her on television.
As of this writing, Beyoncé has not commented on the matter.
Serena Williams on Her Retirement
As Serena Williams wrapped up her first match at the US Open, which she won against Danka Kovinic, the tennis athlete spoke to Gayle King about her decision to retire.
She noted that it's been a hard decision for her as she's really passionate about playing the sport that she loves.
"Sometimes it's harder to walk away than not. I was just like, all right, now's the time. I have my family," she added. (via The New York Post)
