"Real Housewives of New Jersey" star Margaret Josephs' first husband Jan Josephs, has died. He was 74.

PEOPLE confirmed Jan's "unexpected" death, quoting Margaret's recent Instagram post about his supposed 75th birthday.

"He passed away unexpectedly last week and a piece of us died with him. We are heartbroken. The night before he left us we shared a beautiful conversation of how blessed we are, our children all successful and happy and that we could only brag to each other. We spoke everyday, he was my family," the post read.

The fashion designer also called Jan an amazing father, grandfather, friend, and partner.

She did not disclose Jan Josephs' cause of death, but the news outlet said that he died of a "sudden heart attack."

The American Heart Association explains that there is a difference between heart attack and cardiac arrest. For Jan's case, his sudden health issue happened without a warning after an electrical malfunction suddenly caused an arrhythmia or irregular heartbeat. This caused the heart to become unable to pump blood to different organs.

Meanwhile, a normal heart attack shows symptoms when a blocked artery prevents blood from reaching a section of the heart.

Jan Josephs' Funeral Services: Family Receives Heartfelt Messages

Before the news emerged, it was known that his family had already held funeral services in Englewood, New Jersey, last week. He and Margaret tied the knot in 1994.

In an episode of "RHONJ," the 55-year-old reality star said that Jan's children needed someone to love, and she became obsessed with them. Aside from Jan's three children, they also share their 26-year-old biological son.

Their marriage life ended in 2013 after Margaret cheated on him with her now-husband, Joe Benigno. She revealed the shocking details about it in her memoir, "Caviar Dreams, Tuna Fish Budget." She once disclosed that the event put her and her stepchildren in tension.

Unfortunately, her divorce from Jan also prevented her from speaking to them since the three already hated her.

But last year, she told Wendy Williams that she and Jan had already become amazing friends who co-parent their children.

Following the announcement, their fans and viewers sent tributes and touching messages to the bereaved family.
