Queen Elizabeth II, before her death, ultimately became one of the richest royals and people around the globe. Thus, her passing made royal fans conduct some digging into the fortune she left.
On Thursday, the Queen died at Balmoral Castle, a few hours after her doctors said they were concerned about her health.
After she died, it was estimated that the monarchy is worth $88 billion. Despite the whopping amount, Forbes estimates that Queen Elizabeth II's net worth in 2022 is around $500 million.
The magazine noted that most of her personal estate would be inherited by her son and successor, King Charles III.
Queen Elizabeth II received millions from her loved ones in the past years. When her mother, Queen Mother, died, she got $85 million from her. Meanwhile, her husband, Prince Philip, left her with $12 million.
Most of Queen Elizabeth II's net worth came from her Crown Estate, a multi-billion worth property estate. CBS News quoted the royal family's latest financial report, the Crown Estate has assets and real estate worth $34.3 billion.
This includes Buckingham Palace and Kensington Palace, among others. Everything under the Crown estate will be handed to King Charles III as her successor and current reigning monarch.
Fifteen percent of its earnings go to the royal family. With its $311 million earning in the recent fiscal year, the royal family benefited $47 million from it.
Queen Elizabeth II's Net Worth Decreased
Although having a half-a-billion net worth was already impressive enough, Queen Elizabeth II actually had a much larger sum in the past.
In 2016, Queen Elizabeth II had an estimated personal net worth of $530 million. It dropped to $412 million in 2020, with the Sunday Times' Rich List saying that Queen Elizabeth II's rank dropped in the past years because of her decreasing net worth.
For what it's worth, royal fans particularly thought that the pandemic affected the amount due to the Queen's decision to temporarily close Buckingham Palace and other royal palaces amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
