Ryan Coogler Devastated: Chadwick Boseman’s Death Almost Made Director Left Career; Here’s Why
Chadwick Boseman's death was one of the saddest things that happened in the entertainment industry over the past few years as many fans and co-actors loved him for his personality and talent.
One of the people heavily affected by the tragic death was director Ryan Coogler and he revealed that he almost quit filmmaking after the actor's passing; why did he almost let his career go?
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the "Black Panther" director revealed there was a point in his career when he was ready to walk away from the entertainment business.
The reason behind it is that Boseman's death "hurt a lot" and he didn't know if he could make another movie after it, especially the "Black Panther" franchise.
"I was like, 'Man, how could I open myself up to feeling like this again?'" he said. (via AV Club)
Ryan Coogler Decided to Continue Chadwick Boseman's Legacy
The late actor and the director had a close bond when they were filming the movie franchise. After the star's death, he went back and listened to previous interviews and recordings which motivated him to return to filmmaking.
After listening to the recorded archives, he had a big realization, saying it was the end of Boseman's life and he needed to keep going.
Coogler was also one of the reasons why the rest of the cast and crew moved forward from the tragedy. Actress Lupita Nyong'o said she dreaded the beginning of their shoot because none of them could imagine how to push through without Boseman.
"It was unfathomable to me. But Ryan managed to honor his life and his role in both the film and our lives with his moving, truthful, and clear vision," she shared.
On the other hand, Winston Duke said cast members would "take turns" hyping each other when one of them was having a hard time filming.
Regarding how Letitia Wright, the rumored Black Panther, tries to have a spiritual connection with her late co-star, the actress said she would ask him about how she did as he meant everything to her when he was still alive.
In early reports, Chadwick Boseman passed away at the age of 43 in his home in Los Angeles, California.
The actor had been fighting Stage 3 colon cancer since 2016 and it had progressed to Stage 4 in recent years.
