Trevor Noah Blindsided 'Daily Show' Bosses, He Did THIS One Day Before Shocking Announcement
Even though they had seen each other the day before Trevor Noah's shocking revelation, the "Daily Show" executives were kept in the dark about a significant matter.
Trevor informed his studio audience last week that, after seven years, he was leaving the show.
Puck News claims that he spoke with his Comedy Central superiors the day before breaking the bombshell news and kept them in the dark about it.
On September 28, the day before he announced his choice to the world on live television, sources told the publication that Noah had lunch with Chris McCarthy, president and CEO of MTV Entertainment Group.
A source said that the comic gave Chris no indication of what was to follow.
But he didn't just keep it a secret from his employer; he also completely caught everyone off guard, including the show's producers, team members, and employees.
Because of his hectic schedule, sources have stated that Trevor had found the daily grind of working on the show to be excruciating.
Along with presenting the program, Trevor continues to perform stand-up comedy, and he just shot a Netflix comedy special. In addition to that, he is working on a number of other projects.
Additionally, tipsters told Puck News that Chris extended Trevor Noah's contract by three years in 2019. His hosting duties were extended under the new agreement through the 2023-2024 season, subject to options being exercised.
The network wanted to keep the artist on the air for as long as possible, they added.
Although the Comedy Central executives were astonished by his choice, there is no animosity between them.
Since Trevor is still anticipated to remain on the program into the next year, the network has plenty of time to locate a replacement.
In reality, there is already a candidate who may take his place. Roy Wood Jr., a correspondent for "The Daily Show," is the front-runner to replace Trevor.
On Sept. 28, Trevor Noah told his audience in the studio and those watching, "I've loved hosting this show. It's been one of my greatest challenges."
The host went on to say, "It's been one of my greatest joys. I've loved trying to figure out how to make people laugh even when the stories are particularly s----- on the worst days."
According to Celebrity Net Worth, Trevor Noah has an estimated net worth of $100 million, and he has been raking in between $5 million and $8 million per season of his show since its inception in 2015.
But in 2017, it reportedly increased to $16 million per season.
He also gets his money from podcasts, tours, and books.
