Victor Steeman Accident: Motorcycle Racer Dead at 22 After Tragic Crash During Race
The 22-year-old motorcycle rider Victor Steeman, unfortunately, cut his fruitful career short after a tragedy happened.
News reports about Steeman's death emerged as the young motorcycle rider reportedly got involved in a horrifying crash during a championship race in Portugal. The Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme confirmed the news on Tuesday, saying that the Supersport rider suffered fatal injuries after a multi-rider accident.
According to FIM, the violent crash happened at Turn 14 of the FIM Supersport 300 World Championship's Race 1.
CNN quoted part of the official statement which disclosed that Steeman received medical support at the track's side before transporting him to the circuit's medical center. He was then transferred to Faro Hospital by air.
Unfortunately, the Dutch motorcycle rider succumbed to his injuries despite the medical staff's efforts to save him.
Following the incident, his family penned a message - which was shared by the FIM - saying that the thing they have always feared as a parent of a motorcycle racer now happened.
Although Steeman did not win the race, he won people's hearts by saving five lives after his death.
"Our Victor could not win this last race. Despite the unbearable loss and grief, we are extremely proud to share with you that our hero, through his passing, was able to save five other people by donating his organs," the family said.
They also extended their gratitude to everyone who has been supporting them in the past days since losing the 22-year-old rider.
Fans and organizations all over the globe extended their sympathies to the bereaved family as they paid tribute to Steeman.
Victor Steeman's death came after another rider died in England earlier this month.
British Superbike Rider Chrissy Rouse Died After Crash
Days before Steeman's fatal crash, rider Chrissy Rouse also faced death when he suffered a catastrophic head injury during a collision.
On October 2, the 26-year-old was participating in the British Superbike Championships' third race at Donnington Speedway, Castle Donnington, when the collision happened around 4:30 p.m. It occurred before the Wheatcroft straight track.
Rouse was rushed to Queen's Medical Center, where he received emergency neurosurgery. But after four days, he died of his injuries and complications.
The Leicestershire Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit has since launched a probe alongside the Motorcycle Circuit Racing Control Board and MotorSport Vision Racing. They aim to trace people who recorded the collision to further investigate the matter.
