YouTube creators Chad Hurley and Steve Chen were looking for a way to help a new generation of videographers create more complex and intriguing content in an easy to use format.

The result - MixBit, an app that builds off the idea of short, bite-sized videos advocated by Instagram and Twitter's Vine. However, MixBit allows users to shoot 16 second scenes and then arrange them into a final video that can be as long as one hour.

The free new app recently launched for Apple iOS devices and online at the MixBit website but will soon be available in Android form, according to The New York Times. The new site allows users to upload their own original content as well as encourages people to remix previously published work in order to put a new spin on a different idea.

The video-stitching program allows users to create more complex works while on the go, without the need of a computer-based video editing program.

"Today we want to remove the barriers to video creation," Hurley wrote on the new site. "That means giving people intuitive and flexible recording and remixing tools so it's easier than ever to tell meaningful stories through video. It means inventing new ways to encourage and enable people to collaborate with each other."

MixBit does not require potential users to create and account.
