Meghan Markle, Prince Harry Need To 'Beg Forgiveness' From Kate Middleton Amid Cancer Battle, Royal Expert Says
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry should repair their relationship with Kate Middleton amid her battle with cancer, according to a royal expert.
Daily Mail editor and broadcaster Richard Eden claimed in a new piece for the outlet that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex allegedly not receiving a warning that Middleton had been diagnosed with cancer before her public announcement "speaks volumes about the state of their relationship."
While some experts have suggested that Middleton's health situation may lead to a reconciliation with the Sussexes, Eden claimed that Prince Harry and Markle must first "acknowledge the hurt they have caused and the damage done" since their exit from royal life before the rift can start healing.
"They should then apologize and beg forgiveness from Catherine and her husband, who deserve nothing less," the royal expert wrote.
Shortly after Middleton released a video announcing her diagnosis last week, Prince Harry and Markle sent their sister-in-law well-wishes as she undergoes treatment.
"We wish health and healing for Kate and the family, and hope they are able to do so privately and in peace," the couple said.
PR expert Ryan McCormick suggested to The Mirror that the statement was a "positive" sign for their relationship with the royal family.
"The gravity of this situation may be so large that it could melt away long-held grievances," McCormick said. "Yes, Meghan and Harry have their faults, but family is family. Their feud could very well end immediately."
But while the Sussexes quickly reacted to the news, The Times of London reported that Middleton's diagnosis was allegedly "not shared in advance with" with Prince Harry and Markle.
Unnamed sources told the outlet that Prince Harry, who once had a close bond with his older brother's wife, reportedly found out about Princess Kate's condition "from television, at the same time as the public."
People reported that Prince Harry and Markle immediately reached out to Middleton and Prince William privately to offer support before releasing their public statement.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex also allegedly were not told the details of Middleton's abdominal surgery and recovery during the weeks leading up to her announcement.
"They are aware of everything that goes on back in England, but are being left out of any details regarding Kate," an unnamed family source told People on March 20. "There is clearly no trust."
Prince Harry and Markle reportedly have been estranged from Prince William and Princess Kate since the Sussexes stepped back from royal duties and moved to California in 2020.
The rift reportedly widened due to the couple's many projects since their royal exit, including their Netflix docuseries "Harry & Meghan" and Prince Harry's bombshell memoir, "Spare."
Earlier this month, royal expert Christopher Andersen told Us Weekly that he believes "there was once a relationship, a friendship, a very close one between Harry and Kate."
However, the royal biographer claimed that Middleton now "wants to have nothing to do with" Prince Harry and his wife.
Following the release of the Sussexes' docuseries in 2022 -- in which Prince Harry claimed that men in the royal family tend to "marry someone who would fit the mold" as opposed to someone they loved -- an unnamed source told Us Weekly that Middleton felt "hurt and betrayed" by her brother-in-law.
Despite the revelations and claims in his book and docuseries, Prince Harry has repeatedly said he wants to reconcile with his family.
"The ball is very much in their court," he said during an interview with CNN's Anderson Cooper in January 2023 following the release of his book.
"Meghan and I have continued to say that we will openly apologize for anything that we did wrong, but every time we ask that question, no one's telling us the specifics or anything," Prince Harry added. "There needs to be a constructive conversation, one that can happen in private that doesn't get leaked."
