Prince Harry 'Uncomfortable' With Meghan Markle's 'Forced' PDA: Royal Expert
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's most recent PDA when they hosted an event didn't look natural, according to a royal expert.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex hosted an event at The Kinsey African American Art & History Collection on March 21. They looked happy when they mingled with other guests at the event.
Tom Quinn, a royal biographer and author of "Kensington Palace: An Intimate Memoir from Queen Mary to Meghan Markle," weighed in on the couple's sweet moments at the event this week. However, in his assessment, Prince Harry looked "uncomfortable" and his "contrived" appearance could be due to the rumors that they were having marital strife. The royal commentator also felt that Markle appeared like she was acting for her former TV show, "Suits."
"Harry and Meghan's recent hosting of a special event in honor of the Kinsey African-American, Art and History Collection gave the couple the chance to do something for an institution that has a special place in Meghan's heart, and it was fascinating to see how loved up Meghan and Harry were at the event," Quinn told The Mirror.
"But there was a sense that some of this was rather forced -- recent publicity has suggested Meghan and Harry's relationship is under strain, and this will have determined the couple to make a public demonstration of their love for each other and the strength of their marriage. But to many, their displays of affection looked contrived -- many of us thought Meghan looked as if she was still acting in 'Suits!' And Harry always looks really uncomfortable with public hugs!"
Quinn suggested that the Sussexes wanted to keep up with their public display of affection because it was part of their brand. Prince Harry and Markle were deemed the "romance of the century" after King Edwards VII and Wallis Simpson. He also believes that "there will be panic at any suggestion that the relationship isn't going really well."
"Their romance is a key part of their brand, so whenever we see them now in public, they will make huge efforts to show they are still madly in love. Harry is in the most difficult position because he gave up being a working Royal for this romance, and if the romance fails, he has nothing else," Quinn added.
Angela Levin, a British journalist and writer, wasn't convinced by the Sussexes' PDA, too. Prince Harry's biographer claimed that Markle only praised her husband in her speeches for her rebranding.
"These new PR people are telling her: 'You've got to be positive. You've got to be lovey-dovey,'" Levin claimed. "'You've got to be upbeat and bring him in.' It's all so phony. I don't think any of us should believe it. It's all for show and part of her rebrand."
