Anne Hathaway Details Having To Kiss 10 Men For Film Chemistry Test: 'Worst Way To Do It'
Anne Hathaway is remembering a "gross" experience she endured in the 2000s which required her to kiss 10 men.
"Back in the 2000s - and this did happen to me - it was considered normal to ask an actor to make out with other actors to test for chemistry," Hathaway said in an interview with V Magazine published on Monday. "Which is actually the worst way to do it."
"I was told, 'We have 10 guys coming today and you're cast. Aren't you excited to make out with all of them?' And I thought, 'Is there something wrong with me?' because I wasn't excited," she recalled. "I thought it sounded gross. And I was so young and terribly aware how easy it was to lose everything by being labeled 'difficult,' so I just pretended I was excited and got on with it."
She continued: "It wasn't a power play, no one was trying to be awful or hurt me. It was just a very different time and now we know better."
In the early 2000s, Hathaway, 41, starred in the movies 'The Devil Wears Prada,' 'The Princess Diaries' and its subsequent sequels, and 'Ella Enchanted.'
The names of the men she kissed were not released.
The Golden Globe winner is promoting her latest film, 'The Idea of You,' where she also serves as a producer. The movie follows a single mother (Hathaway) who falls in love with Hayes Campbell, played by Nicholas Galitzine, a singer from a popular boyband named August Moon.
The romantic comedy is directed by Michael Showalter from a screenplay he co-wrote with Jennifer Westfeldt. The film is based on the novel of the same name by Robinne Lee.
