Bobby Brown Hug Ralph Tresvant On-Stage, Ending Years-Long New Edition Feud — See The Video!
Six years after Bobby Brown digitally removed bandmate Ralph Tresvant from a New Edition group photo online, tensions seemed to have dissipated between the two vocalists, sparking enthusiasm among fans.
Tresvant, 55, made a surprise appearance alongside Brown during his performance on The Tom Joyner Foundation's Fantastic Voyage 2024 cruise, as captured in Instagram footage shared on April 30th. Brown performed his songs from his solo album, accompanied by his son, Landon, in several clips.
In a brief clip, Tresvant joined Brown onstage, dancing and singing along as he performed "Every Little Step." Another clip from the cruise showcased Tresvant cheering on Brown with chants of "Go, Bobby! Go Bobby!" as the 55-year-old singer danced.
Fans were thrilled by the reunion, particularly given the history of tension between the two New Edition vocalists.
"I love no matter what they go thru they'll ALWAYS be each other's hype man," said one fan. "Just like back in the day. I love NE's brotherhood."
"I love how they support each other," another commenter wrote. "They are brothers to the end they grew up together," another replied.
In 1985, Brown was notably ousted from the Boston group, which consisted of Michael Bivins, Ronnie DeVoe, and Rickey Bell. He was subsequently replaced by Johnny Gill. Brown's alleged behavior and recurring conflicts with fellow group members had become problematic, prompting to his departure and eventual pursuit of a thriving solo career.
Bivins, DeVoe, and Bellin regrouped as a trio known as Bell Biv DeVoe in 1990. Their collective efforts resulted in a successful stint and the creation of classic hit records. Similarly, Tresvant and Gill achieved individual triumphs with their solo ventures.
In 1996, all six members of New Edition came together once again for the album "Home Again" which led to subsequent tours.
Last year, New Edition reconvened for their Legacy Tour in celebration of their 40th anniversary. According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Brown affirmed that all past conflicts within the group "have been resolved."
"There's no reason to separate the group anymore," he stated. "We're definitely stronger together than apart. That's the whole thing about New Edition. We can break up and go into five different genres of music and still be considered a part of New Edition."
"There's no more fighting. It's about loving each other and praying," Brown continued. "It's holding each other accountable for our actions and our moves and talking it out."
Fans expressed genuine concern when Brown withdrew from two shows in April due to exhaustion.
The group has upcoming performances scheduled in Las Vegas from July 3 to July 13 and from Oct.30 to Nov. 2.
