Zendaya Turned Down By Gucci, Dior, Chanel And More For Being 'Too Green,' Stylist Says
Zendaya is a fashion icon, but several fashion houses allegedly refused to dress her, according to her stylist.
Law Roach, the stylist who has been working with Zendaya for years, spoke about the "Spider-Man" actress in his interview with The Cutting Room Floor. Roach admitted that it was challenging to find a luxury fashion house willing to dress the 27-year-old Emmy winner after she was turned down by the "big five."
"I would write the big five. I would write Saint Laurent, Chanel, Gucci, Valentino, Dior, and they would all say, 'No, try again next year. She's too green. She's not on our calendar," Roach said. "Like, I still have all the receipts. I still have everything."

"Too green" means one is "not ripe enough" or is still "too inexperienced" or "too new," as explained by The Cutting Room Floor in the comments section of the article when one asked what the phrase meant.
Per Roach, by the time Zendaya landed the cover of American Vogue, "she still had never worn any of those designers," and "she still hasn't." The stylist noted that the "Euphoria" actress only wore Valentino when she got a campaign for the brand. However, she has not worn any of them on the carpet.
"In the editorial, yes, but [not] on a red carpet," Roach continued. "She still has never worn Dior on a carpet. She still has never worn Chanel on a carpet. She has still never worn Gucci on a carpet. Any press, any appearance, never, never."
The stylist added, "The first time she wore Valentino in public is when she had a contract. So when I said, 'If you say no, it'll be a no forever,' that rang true for a long, long time."
Several netizens on social media were moved by Roach's statement. For them, he was protecting Zendaya from the brands that turned her down by not dressing her with their designs.
"He protected her, and I'M HERE FOR IT," one commented.
Another added, "Love that for her, especially being a young black girl/woman in Hollywood."
"'If you say no, it'll be a no forever' damn, I need to implement this in my life," a third person said.
Someone shared a similar experience online, and just like Roach, she didn't approach those brands who rejected her client, who was reportedly a popular actress.
"I'm a stylist, and this is very true, and my client is one of the biggest actress[es], and they say no, and I've never asked again. Done," the netizen said.
Zendaya graced the 2024 Met Gala with three looks for her return at the annual event after five years and as co-chair for the gala. She was styled by Roach for all of the looks.
The "Challengers" star first wore the Maison Margiela Artisanal by John Galliano, based on a 1999 Dior dress. She appeared on the Met Gala steps again in a black Givenchy gown by Galliano paired with a Philip Treacy bouquet-themed fascinator wrapped in black tulle, Harper's Bazaar reported.
Tom Holland's girlfriend was still not done because she donned a different look inside the venue. She rocked a glittery white gown with a plunging V-neckline by Celia Kritharioti.
Roach also styled Indian fashion entrepreneur Mona Patel at the 2024 Met Gala. Patel went viral after photos and clips of her from the gala steps were shared on social media because she looked every inch glamorous and fashionable in her custom Iris Van Herpen gown. The body-hugging dress featured kinetic butterflies encircling her arms like opera gloves that fluttered their wings in slow motion.
