King Charles gave his eldest son, Prince William, a new military role the same week Prince Harry visited the United Kingdom and the monarch had a purpose for the timing of the announcement, a royal expert claims.

His Majesty announced on May 8 that the Prince of Wales would succeed him as the colonel-in-chief of the Army Air Corp, the regimen that Prince Harry served with in Afghanistan. Many believed that the honor would have been given to the Duke of Sussex had he not stepped down from his royal duties, the Independent reported.

Tom Quinn, a royal commentator and biographer, weighed in on Prince William's new honor. He claimed that the monarch was sending a message to his youngest son with the timing of the announcement.

"King Charles' announcement that Prince Harry is being stripped of his role as Colonel-in-Chief of the Army Air Corps is a real kick in the teeth for the son who always felt marginalized and underrated," Quinn told the Mirror.

"What makes it much worse is that the role is being given to the very man who Harry sees as the cause of so many of his problems -- his brother. And the announcement was deliberately made during Harry's brief visit to the UK to have maximum impact -- it shows Harry that he really is no longer welcome."

The author of "Kensington Palace: An Intimate Memoir from Queen Mary to Meghan Markle" believed the royal family knew the announcement would "really hurt" Meghan Markle's husband. Prince Harry was reportedly emotional when he heard the news.

"He is said to have been in tears when he heard," Quinn said. "But they have decided the gloves are off and that Harry needs to realize that when you betray the family, you don't just escape the things you hated doing as a working royal. You also lose the things you loved."

The announcement came amid reports confirming King Charles didn't meet Prince Harry during his brief visit to England. An insider, who is a friend of the King and Queen Camilla, told The Daily Beast that he made the decision not to see his son because the latter allegedly forced him to choose between him and his wife after he made cruel remarks about his stepmother in his previous interviews and memoir, "Spare."

"Harry has made things very difficult for himself by saying such cruel and hurtful things about Camilla," the source said.

"Harry has made it very clear, very publicly, that he despises her. He has forced Charles to choose, which was a very silly thing to do because Camilla and he both chose each other a long time ago."
