Gayle King's Ex-Husband Praises Her SI Swimsuit Cover Decades After Cheating On Her With Her Friend
The ex-husband of Gayle King is gushing over his ex-wife's latest 'Sports Illustrated' swimsuit edition cover decades after cheating on her with her friend.
The journalist was even more shocked when she found out she was the magazine's cover star, admitting she "never thought" she'd flaunt a bathing suit for the legendary publication. "This was nowhere on my bucket list!" King, 69, exclaimed.
The TV host flaunted several sun-soaking one-pieces, including a printed style with a matching coverup, a lemon yellow suit with a deep V-neck, a pleated white halter style piece, and vibrant orange and neon green suits.
"Well, I can mark off one more item on my highly unlikely to ever happen bucket list! My teenage fantasy of hooking up with a Sports Illustrated model has finally come true," King's ex-husband William Bumpus told Page Six. "WOW! Bravo to you Gayle ... You Look Fantastic! Bravo to Sports Illustrated for selecting YOU."
King and Bumpus tied the knot in 1982 and divorced 11 years later. The pair are parents to daughter Kirby and son William Bumpus Jr., and grandparents to two children.
The 'CBS Mornings' host has long alleged that she caught him cheating on her, in bed, with a woman she considered to be a friend.
When asked who the person she most despised was during a 2016 'Vanity Fair' interview, the Maryland native answered: "Despise is a strong word." She continued: "I'm not a huge fan of the woman I caught naked with my now ex-husband on June 24, 1990, at 9:16 p.m. - but I don't remember the details."
Bumpus released a statement apologizing to King for his indiscretions at that time. "I have been haunted with this life altering choice," he said in a statement to Page Six. "Though I have dealt with this privately ... I publicly apologize for the major transgression that dramatically changed all of our lives."
He continued: "I have nothing but the utmost respect for Gayle and how she handled herself with grace. Despite the situation, she kept our children, as well as my relationship and involvement with them, as a clear priority."
Oprah Winfrey's BFF managed to keep her love life private after her separation, only confessing how she likes a man with a bit of a filthy mouth, Atlanta Black Star reports.
After their divorce, Bumpus, a self-proclaimed "full time stay at home dad" who "recently retired" according to his Instagram bio, has reportedly since remarried. He welcomed a third child, a 12-year-old daughter, with his second wife.
In 2006, King revealed how she "was married to a cheater" on her radio show with Will Smith as a guest. "I went to marital counseling. I have been divorced since 1993, so I'm all healed and everything," she said. "I have worked it out. I'm not bitter. I'm okay. I'm really okay."
