Lizzo Is Back! Not Quitting After All As She Teases New Album
Lizzo is back after previously stating that she was quitting.
On Tuesday, the 36-year-old rapper took to social media to share a new update about her mental health and an announcement that she has finished making a new album.
"I'm the happiest I've been in 10 months. The strange thing about depression is you don't know you're in it until you're out of it. I'm definitely not all the way as carefree as I used to be. But the dark cloud that followed me every day is finally clearing up. My smile reaches my eyes again and that's a win," she wrote.
"I thought my album was finished... but I gotta get some of these good vibes off in a banger real quick. Thanks for your patience."
With her positive update, many of her followers left messages of support. Others shared that they could relate to Lizzo's post.
"So glad that you are starting to feel better. Remember you are not alone! You do enough. You have enough. You are enough. Sending love and hugs," wrote one fan.
"Proud of you, Lizzo. Keep taking care of yourself," said someone else.
"Yay! So happy that you're feeling more like yourself and inspired to share some music with the world because of it!" commented another fan.
"Felt this. You don't know you're out until you know that you're out. Cheers to you," wrote a different commenter.
"'My smile reaches my eyes again and that's a win' should be the beginning of a new song," suggested another netizen.
"Easy does it, Sis. Take your time. We will be here," said a different Instagram user.
The "2 Be Loved (Am I Ready)" artist's latest post is a huge turnaround from her strong statement in late March about quitting, months after she was sued for harassment by some of her former backup dancers for allegedly "creating a hostile work environment."
"I'm getting tired of putting up with being dragged by everyone in my life and on the internet. All I want is to make music and make people happy and help the world be a little better than how I found it," she wrote at the time.
"But, I'm starting to feel like the world doesn't want me in it. I'm constantly up against lies being told about me for clout and views... being the butt of the joke every single time because of how I look... my character being picked apart by people who don't know me and disrespecting my name."
"I didn't sign up for this s**t -- I QUIT," she concluded her statement.
A few days later, in April, she clarified her statement, saying, "I just need to clarify, when I say I quit, I mean I quit giving in any negative energy [and] attention."
"What I'm not gonna quit is the joy of my life, which is making music and connecting the people."
