Nicki Minaj Copies Michael Jackson, Invites Barbz To See Her On Hotel Balcony After Manchester Concert Cancellation
Nicki Minaj wanted to meet her fans from Manchester after her concert in the city was canceled.
The "Super Freaky Girl" singer was supposed to perform at the Co-op Live on Saturday. However, her concert was canceled at the last minute following her arrest at Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport. Thousands of fans -- dubbed the Barbz -- got angry, so the singer wanted to make it up to them by inviting them to see her on her hotel room's balcony.
"To my #GagCityManchester Barbz, I'm going on the balcony so if you're outside I'll be able to see you & I may come downstairs. I'll be out there for about an hour. Rlly wanted to at least get to see you. But if you're in bed plz STAY THERE. I'll update you guys tmrw. Love you," Minaj tweeted.
The post received mixed responses, with some comparing it to Michael Jackson's gesture in the past. Numerous photos and videos of Jackson waving at thousands of his fans from a balcony quickly surfaced online.
"This is some Michael Jackson type s**t! You're an iconic legend," one commented.
Another added, "Awww yesss I was hoping she did this."
"We are here for you queen #GagCityManchester," a third user tweeted while sharing a clip of the individuals who gathered outside the hotel to see Minaj.
Meanwhile, several netizens disagreed with the comparison between Minaj and Jackson. They said the "Thriller" singer didn't have to announce his presence for the crowd to gather. Also, there was no social media at Jackson's time.
"He never announced it like this desperate weirdo," one commented.
A different user opined, "That man never told his fan where he was, she's just a runaway coke head who wants y'all to feel bad for her."
"Lol you wish Nicki was that iconic. Michael will endure and Nicki will fade," another person wrote.

"MJ didn't have to announce it. They were already there," someone else commented with a wink emoji.
The King of Pop was known for meeting and greeting his fans from the balcony. He was photographed waving while on the balcony at the Hotel d'Angleterre in Copenhagen, Denmark, on July 20, 1992.
However, his most-talked-about balcony appearance was also made in November of the same year when he dangled his then six-month-old son, Prince Michael Jackson II, better known as Blanket, over a fourth-floor balcony of a hotel in Berlin, Germany, as his shocked fans watched in horror. About 200 fans gathered near the Brandenburg Gate when Jackson's motorcade arrived, per the BBC.
The late artist brought the child inside his room safely as the crowed cheered on: "Hey, Michael meet the family!" The singer later returned to the balcony, blew them a kiss and waved. He covered his face behind the white curtain, looked down and threw a towel to his fans.
The King of Pop later apologized about dangling his baby on the balcony after a video of the incident was broadcast repeatedly. He said it was a "terrible mistake," CNN reported.
Minaj was arrested for "soft drugs" at the airport. The Royal Netherlands Marechaussee said she was detained in their custody "on suspicion of exporting soft drugs," but she was also released immediately.
"Following consultation with the Public Prosecutor's Office, the suspect received a monetary fine and is now permitted to continue her journey," the statement from the Netherlands security read, per CNN.
Many of Minaj's fans were furious over the incident.
"I spent £150 for my ticket and booked a day off work for it, and we sat there for about three hours waiting, and we got told it's not happening," Imogen Pope, 18, from Newton-le-Wilows in Merseyside, told the BBC, noting that she was "pretty livid" and "gutted."
"It's just really disappointing when we've got our hopes up and spent the money, and we get told at the very last minute that she's not going to show up," Ellis Day, 17, from Cheshire, said, adding that he was "absolutely devastated."
Minaj is due to perform at another concert at the Co-op Live, Manchester, on Thursday after her Saturday's canceled show.
