Real-Life 'The Vow': Man Who 'Ghosted' Girlfriend Actually Fell Into Coma, Suffered Memory Loss
Haley Woloshen thought she had been ghosted by her boyfriend Cody Bryant only to find out that he got into an accident, went into a coma and lost his memories.
After spending some time together following their first meeting in Hawaii, Bryant reportedly stopped responding to Woloshen's messages all of a sudden. This made her think that Cody had "ghosted her."
"We met in Hawaii and found out we lived a mile away from each other in LA. We hung out for a few weeks, then I 'ghosted' her. I had actually been hit by a car and was in a coma," Cody recalled in a TikTok post.

Like Channing Tatum's character, Leo, in the 2012 movie "The Vow," Cody had a life-altering car accident in 2022.
"[Eighteen] months ago, I was in an accident in Spain that I wasn't expected to survive. Doctors said I'd never walk or talk again if I even woke up from the coma. I had to be medical[ly] flighted back to the US, and spent months doing intensive inpatient rehab for severe traumatic brain injuries," he shared in a separate TikTok video last April.
"I lost complete control of half of my body and experienced extreme cognitive, psychological and emotional effects."
Just when Haley thought Cody "ghosted" her, she stumbled upon a GoFundMe campaign organized by the latter's friends for his recovery.
"She found out [about the accident] via GoFundMe. After months of focusing on rehab, we reconnected and she started helping me out platonically," Cody recalled.

"Plot twist: Because of my brain injury, I actually had no memory of our pre-accident connection. Neither of us expected it, but feelings started to build. I joke that she won me over a second time."
"Navigating boundaries between a relationship and caregiving was a challenge. But I couldn't be happier with where we are. We've built a strong foundation in the most terrible of situations. In sickness and in health since day one. We've been together over a year now," he continued, sharing with his TikTok followers his wonderful love story with Haley.
Haley won her lover's heart for a second time amid the struggles of her guy losing his memory, like what happened to Rachel McAdams' character, Paige, in the film.
A longer version of their love story told in Haley's POV is also available on the "Seeing Other People" podcast on Spotify. It was released in August 2023 and titled "He wasn't ghosting me, he was in a coma."
Aside from sharing the movie-like plot twist in their romance, Haley talked about inter-abled dating on the podcast.
