In a surprising turn of events regarding the viral case of Corey Harris — the Michigan man who was driving while on a Zoom court call for driving on a suspended license — the presiding judge is challenging the assertion that his license suspension was revoked in 2022.

During a hearing on Wednesday, a judge disclosed that Harris never actually possessed a license to begin with after he claimed a clerical error was the reason for his suspension.

Harris caused a stir last month when a video of him joining his Zoom court appearance while operating his vehicle circulated. Judge Cedric Simpson expressed bewilderment at Harris' actions, especially as Harris claimed he was merely parking at his doctor's office.

Perplexed by Harris' explanation, the judge swiftly ordered him to surrender himself to the Washtenaw County Jail by 6pm that same day. Harris' reaction of disbelief, looking skyward and exclaiming, "Oh my God," was captured on video. As a result, Harris ended up spending two days behind bars.

Initially, it was speculated that the incident stemmed from a clerical error, with reports suggesting that the suspension on Harris' license had been lifted in January 2022 but not properly communicated to state authorities. However, it has since come to light that Harris never held a valid Michigan driver's license in the first place.

"Let me make it very clear, based on what the court looked at. [Harris] has never had a Michigan license. Ever. And he has never had a license in the other 49 states and commonwealths that form up this great union. He has never had a license," a judge declared as Harris showed up in Washtenaw County Court on Wednesday, sporting a yellow shirt emblazoned with "trust me" across the front.

During the proceedings, prosecutors verified that Harris was aware of his suspended license status, as he openly admitted it to officers during a traffic stop in October 2023. Judge Simpson also noted how Harris was aware of his lack of a driver's license due to him consistently renewing his state identification annually.

"The way I know that he's never had a license is because — on May 3, 1999, he was 19 at the time — he applied for his first Michigan ID," Simpson stated. "He has religiously, every year, gotten a new ID. And so he knows that he doesn't have a license."
