Martin Lawrence And Will Smith Were Not The Original 'Bad Boys' Cast, Find Out Who They Replaced
'Bad Boys: Ride or Die' dominated the U.S. box office during its debut weekend, but would the popular franchise have been as successful with the original cast?
The buddy-cop series, which stars Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, was originally conceived with different actors in mind according to the 'Atlanta Black Star.'
In the original ideation of the film, creators had Dana Carvey and Jon Lovitz to play the leading characters. However, according to Smith, who appeared on 'The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon,' the two actors had insurmountable scheduling conflicts. He cited that due to Carvey's schedule, the two would have had to delay the film for four months.
Smith also explained how Lawrence, 59, was casted first. "They had a green light to make the movie... and Martin was first...and Martin actually picked me."
According to 'The Hollywood Reporter,' 'Bad Boys: Ride or Die' surpassed box office expectations.
While movie ticket sales at this time of year have been slow, 'Bad Boys' impressed with a $56 million domestic opening and a $104.6 million global opening. The film had a $100 million dollar budget.
The film's success confirmed Smith's welcomed returned in Hollywood after the Oscars incident in 2022.
Smith charged the Academy Awards stage to slap Chris Rock in the face after making a joke about his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith.
