Jessica Alba Tapped To Lead Opposite Gabrielle Union In NBC's 'Bad Boys' Spin-Off Pilot
Jessica Alba is set to star in NBC's TV adaptation of Bad Boys opposite actress Gabrielle Union, who will reprise her role in Bad Boys 2.
Cast And Producers
Alba is returning to television screens in the pilot from writer Brandon Margolis and Brandon Sonnier, who previously worked together on The Blacklist from NBC. The Dark Angel star will play the role of Nancy McKenna, a detective who gets paired with Union's character, former DEA agent Syd Burnett, at the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD).
McKenna and Burnett, who is now an LAPD detective, are both at the top of their fields although they lead different lifestyles and have different approaches. McKenna cannot help but envy her partner's freedom because she is a working mom. She is raising two preteen stepkids from her husband.
Prior to becoming a detective, McKenna joined the army straight out of high school. She spent most of the 2000s in Afghanistan and Iraq. She joined the military police to get closer to the action since women were not allowed in combat.
The mother-of-three will not only star in the still-untitled Bad Boys spin-off from NBC but will also serve as executive producer. Union and Bad Boys movies' producers Jerry Bruckheimer and Doug Belgrad will executive produce the project along with Union, Sonnier, Margolis, KristieAnne Reed, Jeff Morrone, Jeff Gaspin, and Jonathan Littman. Sony Pictures will produce the spin-off in association with Primary Wave Entertainment, Jerry Bruckheimer Television, and 2.0 Entertainment.
Aside from Union and Alba, other stars in the pilot are previously cast Zach Gilford (Friday Night Lights), Ernie Hudson (Ghostbusters), and Duane Martin (Above the Rim).
Alba will co-lead opposite Union in the action-packed and character-driven spin-off, although the story revolves around Union's Burnett.
Further details about the Bad Boys spin-off have yet to be announced. NBC has yet to reveal the title of the series and its premiere date.
