T.J. Holmes Credits Amy Robach For 'Helping Save My Life' Amid 'Awful' Depression: 'Didn't Realize How Bad Off I Was'
T.J. Holmes may not have been alive today if it were not for girlfriend and former co-host Amy Robach.
On the most recent episode of 'Amy & T.J.,' a podcast hosted by the colleagues turned lovers, the former 'CNN' anchor revealed that while his job on 'GMA3' in 2020 was a step forward in his career, his mental health took major steps back.
He recalled that at the time, "I didn't realize how bad off I was. I would walk back and forth in the middle of the night because I didn't want to go home, and I would just walk the streets... there's a bench on 14th street, just west of Union Square where I have actually slept at night. I was the best-dressed homeless man you have ever seen in your life."
According to 'PEOPLE,' Holmes, 46, was still married to Marilee Fiebig when he started on the morning show. In November 2022, the relationship between Holmes and Robach became public. Nearly one year later, the couple took to the red carpet of the Jingle Ball, marking their first appearance as a couple.
During the podcast episode, Holmes declared Robach "literally" saved his life. "She wouldn't let me slide on anything," he recalled.

Robach, 51, countered the compliment, attesting, "You saved your life. You did, and we became best friends. We were good friends, but once we started co-anchoring that show together, and it was amazing to watch you transform to be the best version of yourself. And I knew your heart, and I knew your beautiful mind, and I knew you were struggling. Sometimes you just need a friend. Sometimes, you just need one person to believe in you."
Despite their self-proclaimed love and commitment, the two, who left their spouses to be with one another, agreed marriage may not be in the cards for them, per WHAS-11.
"We're still deciding about what that level of commitment is... like, whether it's legal or not... but mentally, emotionally, we've absolutely agreed to commit to one another," Robach said. "We haven't figured the marriage thing out yet."
Holmes estranged wife, Fiebig, and Robach's ex-husband, Andrew Shue, have reportedly been dating for over six months.
