Kevin Spacey Says King Charles Expressed Support For Him Amid Sexual Assault Charges
Kevin Spacey has claimed he heard "a message of support" from King Charles III during his sexual misconduct trials.
The two-time Oscar winner made the claim during an interview on "Piers Morgan Uncensored" that aired Tuesday.
Spacey confirmed that he hasn't heard "directly" from King Charles since legal cases were first brought against him over alleged sexual assaults and inappropriate behavior.
However, the "House of Cards" star claimed to host Piers Morgan that he "heard" from other people that the British monarch privately expressed support for him.
"I heard a message, and I'm very grateful for that," Spacey said.
When Morgan asked if it was a "message of support," Spacey confirmed it was.
The "American Beauty" actor suggested that he didn't want to go into detail about it given King Charles' ongoing health battle.
"I don't want to drag him into all this," Spacey told the host. "He's got a lot on his plate, and I wish him the very best."
In 2010, then-Prince Charles presented Spacey with his honorary CBE for his services to drama, the Daily Mail reported.
The royal also presented the BAFTA-winning actor with an honorary knighthood in 2016 for his services to theater, the arts, and international culture.
During his chat with Morgan, Spacey said Charles, who became King in 2022 following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, was supportive of him when he served as artistic director of The Old Vic from 2003 to 2015.
"We were very fortunate that when he was the prince of Wales, he loved the Old Vic. He believed in it. His grandmother had been the patron there for many years. He came to see our productions, and I was always honored to be able to do what I could for the Prince's Trust," Spacey said Tuesday.
Then-Prince Charles became patron of the London theater in 2017, and his charity The Prince's Trust worked with The Old Vic to provide jobs for young people.
Multiple individuals have accused Spacey of sexual misconduct since actor Anthony Rapp first came forward in late 2017 with accusations that the "Seven" star sexually assaulted him in 1986. At the time, Rapp was 14 and Spacey was 26.
Several accusers, including Rapp, filed lawsuits against Spacey over the allegations, all of which the award-winning actor has denied.
Spacey was found not liable in Rapp's case in 2022 and was acquitted the following year of sexually assaulting four men between 2004 and 2013, according to Variety.
Several other charges and lawsuits against Spacey have since been dropped.
