Texas Tourist Electrocuted In Jacuzzi At Mexico Resort, Wife Battling For Her Life
A resident of El Paso, Texas, lost his life following an electrocution incident in a jacuzzi at a private condominium complex in Mexico on Tuesday.
'PEOPLE' reported 43-year-old Jorge Guillen died after being electrocuted in a jacuzzi in Puerto Peñasco, Sonora, Mexico. His wife, Lizette Zambrano, was also present and suffered injuries from a "possible electric discharge," according to a statement from the General Prosecutor's Office of Justice of the State of Sonora. The incident occurred at the Sonoran Sea Resort, and authorities are investigating the source of the electrical failure.
Lizette is currently in critical condition and has been transported to a hospital in the U.S. for medical treatment.
A witness who tried to help the couple reported being shocked upon entering the jacuzzi. Sara Gaitan-Perez, a nurse from Goodyear, Arizona, who was staying at the resort, confirmed that the couple was alone in the jacuzzi when the incident occurred.
Gaiten-Perez mentioned that her husband and son had used the same hot tub approximately one hour before the incident. She administered CPR to the couple and noted that Lizette regained consciousness and was breathing before being transported to the ambulance. Despite media inquiries, the resort has not provided any official statement regarding the incident.
According to PEOPLE, a GoFundMe campaign has been initiated to assist the families of the couple. The campaign has raised more than $27,000 in support.
