Prince William's Warning About Meghan Markle 'Affronted' Prince Harry But 'He Was Correct,’ Royal Expert Claims
Prince William warned Prince Harry about his hasty romance with Meghan Markle, according to a royal expert.
The Prince of Wales and Duke of Sussex are not on speaking terms, and there are claims that their falling out started even before Prince Harry and Markle tied the knot and quit their royal duties. Previous reports claimed that Prince William warned his sibling that things were going too fast between him and the former actress when he decided to marry her after less than a year of dating.
Jennie Bond, royal commentator and former BBC royal correspondent, recently appeared on The Sun's "Royal Exclusive" podcast and said that the heir apparent had a point.
"William was correct to guide or warn Harry, 'Are you sure you're not going a bit fast in this relationship with Meghan?'" Bond said. "It affronted Harry to be questioned like that, but I think it came from a good place."
To clarify her point, Bond noted how successful marriages in the royal family had longer courtships. The Prince and Princess of Wales dated for nearly a decade before they got engaged and married in 2011, as the Earl and Countess of Wessex.
"Kate was given ten years to peer into the goldfish bowl of royal life," she said. "I think it was brilliant she saw all the restrictions and glare of publicity it brings. Because their courtship was so long, she was able to judge that she could hack it -- and William could see that too."
Bond continued, "If you look at the marriages which really have 'survived,' Sophie Wessex is another example. She again had a long courtship with Edward -- they more or less lived together before marriage. That is one of the most delightfully happy marriages in the royal family."

Prince Harry admitted in his 2023 memoir "Spare" that his big brother felt he was moving "too fast" regarding his relationship with Markle.
"In fact, he'd actually been pretty discouraging about my even dating Meg," he wrote, per Entertainment Tonight.
The future king reportedly "bristled" when their late grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, approved Prince Harry's plan. Prince William allegedly told Prince Harry he put the Queen in an "uncomfortable position," and she had no choice.
"Willy always thought Granny had a soft spot for me, that she indulged me while holding him to an impossibly high standard," Prince Harry added. "He hated the idea of me enjoying a perk he'd been denied."
