Diddy Returns New York City's 'Key To The City' Following The Release Of Brutal Assault Video Against Cassie
Sean "Diddy" Combs has returned a significant accolade, giving back New York's Key to the City after Mayor Eric Adams asked for its return in a letter.
The request followed the release of a video showing him kicking, pushing, dragging and hitting his then-girlfriend Cassie Ventura in 2019.
'TMZ' has acquired two letters addressed to Diddy, one sent to Combs Entertainment LLC's New York office and the other to his Los Angeles office. In these letters, Mayor Adams, 63, expressed that he is "deeply disturbed" by the contents of the Cassie video.
Adams stated his support for domestic abuse survivors and highlights that the Key to the City is intended for individuals who demonstrate exemplary behavior — a standard the selection committee says Diddy no longer meets.
Mayor Adams, who previously mentioned that the committee would convene to discuss this issue, recommended revoking Combs' key and provided a return address for it.
Sources close to the situation told 'TMZ' that the letters were sent on June 4. Diddy, 54, returned the key on June 10.
The city maintains a record of all Key to the City recipients. While Combs' name is still listed, it now includes the following note: "This Key to the City was rescinded by Mayor Eric Adams on June 4, 2024, via a formal letter due to actions of domestic and gender-based violence committed by Mr. Combs."
Despite Diddy's persistent denial of wrongdoing, he acknowledged his involvement in the assault on Cassie, 37, and publicly apologized following the video's release on Instagram.
His legal challenges have since expanded to include several sexual assault lawsuits and a federal investigation into allegations of sex trafficking, harassment and narcotics offenses, according to 'Vulture.'
