Willie Mays, described as one of baseball's most iconic and electrifying players, died Tuesday.

He was 93.

The late Hall of Famer, known as the "Say Hey Kid," passed away "peacefully and among loved ones," as reported by his son, Michael, who shared the announcement via the Giants MLB franchise.

"I want to thank you all from the bottom of my broken heart for the unwavering love you have shown him over the years. You have been his life's blood," Michael Mays stated, per 'CNN.'

The beloved baseball player got the nickname "Say Hey Kid" for the way he enthusiastically greeted people.

According to the Baseball Hall of Fame, Mays joined the Birmingham Barons of the Negro American League at the ripe age of 16. It was in 1950 when the New York Giants purchased his contract, bringing him to center field at the Polo Grounds by the following season.

Mays played 21 seasons with the Giants, finishing with the Mets in 1972 and 1973. Per the baseball hub, the legendary sportsman hit over .300 10 times, en route to a career mark of .302, finishing with 3,283 hits.

"We are heartbroken to learn of the passing of Hall of Famer Willie Mays, one of the most exciting all-around players in the history of our sport," @MLB penned on Twitter, now known as X.

"Mays was a two-time MVP, 24-time All-Star, 12-time Gold Glove Award winner, and a recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom. In commemoration of "The Catch" as perhaps the most famous play in the history of the Fall Classic, the World Series MVP Award was named in his honor in 2017."

In 2015, he recieved the Presidential Medal of Freedom, placed around his neck by 44th President Barack Obama.

Mays is survived by his son, 65-year-old Michael Mays.
