Over 40 Hooters locations nationwide have shut down after suffering from "underperforming" sales.

The Atlanta-based casual dining chain confirmed this week that it had shuttered multiple locations across 14 states, citing "pressure from current market conditions" as the reason.

Despite the nationwide closings, Hooters said it will continue to open domestic and international locations in the future. It will also launch frozen products for purchase at grocery stores, USA Today noted.

"This brand of 41 years remains highly resilient and relevant. We look forward to continuing to serve our guests at home, on the go and at our restaurants here in the U.S. and around the globe," a company statement read.

It also ensured that affected staff and employees will prioritized amid the downsizing.

Hooters joins a list of brands that have announced multiple store closings this year. These include Walmart, Rite Aid, Family Dollar and Macy's, among others.
