Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were not given the royal treatment they thought they would receive in Hollywood following their royal exit, a royal expert has claimed.

Speaking on the "Palace Confidential" podcast, Daily Mail editor Richard Eden claimed the Duke and Duchess of Sussex likely thought celebrities would flock to them after they stepped back from royal duties and moved to California in 2020. Enstarz could not independently verify this claim.

However, Markle and Prince Harry's actual situation in Hollywood seems to be a far cry from what they'd envisioned, according to the royal commentator.

"I think they thought, 'When we move to California, we'll be at the center of this kind of royal court, and everyone will be coming to see us,'" Eden said. "But it never seems to be working out like that."

He claimed that instead of celebrities reaching out to them, Prince Harry and Markle are "the ones who always seem to be sucking up to Hollywood royalty."

Eden pointed to Taylor Swift's recent interaction with Prince William and his two children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte.

Earlier this month, the pop superstar posed for a selfie with Prince William and his kids and posted the photo on her Instagram after the royal trio attended her London concert.

Swift accompanied the photo, which has since received nearly 10 million likes on Instagram, with a sweet birthday greeting for Prince William, who turned 42 on June 21.

"It's a very different relationship because, essentially, Taylor Swift is here and she wants to show her respect for the royal family," Eden suggested.

"In a way, you could say [she is] paying court to Prince William -- whereas with Harry and Meghan, it's the other way round," he claimed.

The royal expert appeared to be referring to reports that Swift rejected Markle's invitation to appear on her "Archetypes" podcast despite the Duchess of Sussex sending her a handwritten note.

Eden also claimed that back in 2019, Prince Harry and Markle met Beyoncé and Jay-Z at "The Lion King's" U.K. premiere and allegedly used the event to "suck up to these bigwigs trying to get work for Meghan."

Footage surfaced in early 2020 showing Prince Harry pitching hiring his wife for voiceover work to Disney CEO Bob Iger during the premiere.

However, Hello! later reported that Markle had already been approached by the filmmakers behind "Elephants" to record the voiceover for the Disneynature film weeks before the event.

Prince Harry and Markle have kept busy since moving to the U.S.

The duke and duchess signed multimillion-dollar production deals with Netflix and Spotify and a publishing deal with Penguin Random House. The couple has since released a Netflix docuseries, "Harry & Meghan," while Prince Harry dropped a memoir, "Spare."

Before they parted ways with Spotify, Markle teamed up with the streamer for her "Archetypes" podcast, which featured celebrity guests such as Paris Hilton, Mariah Carey, Serena Williams, Mindy Kaling and Issa Rae.

Markle is now gearing up to release a Netflix cooking show, which appears to complement her lifestyle brand, American Riviera Orchard.
