A new op-ed has raised several eyebrows after the author seemingly questioned Taylor Swift as a role model.

John Mac Ghlionn, a researcher and essayist covering psychology and social relations, shared his thoughts about the "Cruel Summer" singer's popularity. However, he didn't think the pop superstar was a good example for the youth in an op-ed published in Newsweek with the headline "Taylor Swift Is Not a Good Role Model" for several reasons, including her being unmarried and childless at her age. He also mentioned Swift dating "numerous high-profile men" and writing songs "depicting her as the victim."

Several netizens rallied to support Swift. They felt that Ghlionn only had issues with Swift because she is a female who is unmarried and without a child in her 30s. The same attacks against Swift can reportedly be said to her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, but the author only attacked the singer.

"Shame on @Newsweek & writer John Mac Ghlionn. Their 'hot take' on why #TaylorSwift is not a role model is misogynistic, sexist & frankly idiotic. Number of times they have written about 34-year-old unmarried & 'childless' male celebrities?" Caoilfhionn Gallagher wrote in response to the op-ed.

"No man has ever been chastised in the media for being a 'bad role model for boys' because he was '34, unmarried and childless,'" another said. "@Newsweek should be ashamed to print this."

"This man clearly doesn't understand patriarchy. Man mansplaining feminism, patriarchy and who is and is not a female role model," a third person added.

"Taylor Swift's life choices are exactly what I would like my sister or a daughter to emulate. A multi-millionaire Rock Star is a whopping success in my book," a fourth person opined.

Despite the backlash, some netizens also sided with Ghlionn. For them, it was his opinion, and he was free to write about his perception of Swift as a role model.

"It is a point of view. Everyone is allowed to have one. I wouldn't want a daughter seeking out hollow fame personally. Money and adoration of the masses tend to be cold comfort in later life," one wrote.

"Personally, I absolutely love how triggered all the woke feminazis are by this. If there's nothing wrong with being unmarried and childless, what are you all so angry about?" another person asked.

In the article, Ghlionn acknowledged Swift's popularity. However, he seemingly disapproved of her "personal life choices," especially when it came to dating and alleged that she "makes breakups look easy."

"Swift is now the most influential celebrity in America. Her popularity is staggering, and her position as a cultural colossus is unquestionable," Ghlionn wrote. "At 34, Swift remains unmarried and childless, a fact that some might argue is irrelevant to her status as a role model. But, I suggest, it's crucial to consider what kind of example this sets for young girls."

"A role model, by definition, is someone worthy of imitation. While Swift's musical talent and business acumen are certainly admirable, even laudable, we must ask if her personal life choices are ones we want our sisters and daughters to emulate. This might sound like pearl-clutching preaching, but it's a concern rooted in sound reasoning."

Among his concerns was Swift dating allegedly "at least a dozen" men, including Harry Styles, Joe Jonas, Jake Gyllenhaal and more, before her current beau, Kelce.

"This revolving door of relationships may reflect the normal dating experiences of many young women in today's world, but it also raises questions about stability, commitment, and even love itself," Ghlionn added. "Should we encourage young girls to see the 'Swift standard' as the norm, something to aspire to? Or should we be promoting something a little more, shall we say, wholesome? Would any loving parent reading this want their daughter to date 12 different men in the span of just a few years? This is not an attack on Swift; it's a valid question that is worth asking."
