'Refrigerator' Perry Death Hoax: Former Chicago Bear's Demise Rumors VIDEO
Contraru to recent Internet rumors, William "Refrigerator" Perry has not passed away.
Relatives and friends of the former Chicago Bears defensive lineman took to Twitter on Wednesday to assure fans that the 50-year-old was alive and well despite a rumor started by TigerNet.com, according to UPI.
The Clemson University website Tweeted the erroneous news of the sports star's passing on their account at @ClemsonTigerNet. The player's Alma Mater later deleted the post and recanted the statement on their main site.
"There were several reports on twitter this morning of William Perry's passing but it appears it was another William Perry that caused the confusion," said the TigerNetStaff.
While Perry's health has long suffered from the effects of Guillain-Barre syndrome, the athlete's agent, Adam Plotkin, claims that Perry is doing "fine."
"I know he is not dead," Plotkin said, according to the Chicago Tribune. "I talked to [his brother] Michael Dean [Perry] a few minutes ago. And I know the Bears were down there interviewing Fridge on Saturday for coach [Mike] Ditka's [jersey] retirement. But I did talk to Michael Dean, and he had gotten some calls, too, and Michael Dean said it was OK to confirm that Fridge is fine."
The 1986 Super Bowl champion later tweeted his followers himself.
"I heard about the rumors that I passed away online. #SMH," Perry wrote. "Just wanted to let everyone that they are not true and I'm doing fine. Thanks guys!"
Perry retired from the NFL in 1994 after 10 years with the Chicago Bears and the Philadelphia Eagles.
